MARGIE KOVAR

Funeral services for Margie Ruth (Giesenschlag) Kovar, 96, of Snook were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2021, at the Snook Brethren Church, with Brother Joseph Polasek officiating.

Burial followed at Giesenschlag Cemetery near Snook. The family received guests at the church from 9:30-11:00 a.m.

Mrs. Kovar died on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021, in Brenham.

Margie was born on Dec. 30, 1924, in Snook, to Henry William Giesenschlag and Lillie Belle (Struck) Giesenschlag.

She graduated from Snook High School, then Blinn College Class of ‘43.

She also attended McKenzie Baldwin Business School, where she became proficient in typing and bookkeeping.

She married the love of her life, Raymond Kovar, on Dec. 28, 1945. This union was blessed with 65 wonderful years.

She was a teacher at Clay and Providence Schools and worked at Texas A&M in the wildlife department from 1958-1965.

When Raymond opened Snook Auto & Tractor Supply, Margie became the bookkeeper.

She enjoyed collecting depression glass, cookbooks, and salt and pepper shakers. Fox News and TAMU Ladies Sports were her favorite things to watch.

She also enjoyed playing board games with the grandkids.

The grandkids fondly remember her crawfishing skills!

Margie loved cooking fried chicken and delicious sweets for her family.

In her spare time she would quilt and crochet beautiful works of art.

Margie and Raymond loved to travel. They would travel to various Trade and Craft shows where Raymond would demonstrate his blacksmithing skills.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Lillie Giesenschlag; her husband, Raymond Kovar; her sister, Mildred Barry; and her brother, Wilton Giesenschlag.

Margie is survived by her loving family, two sons, Glenn Kovar and wife, Debra, of Brenham, and Mark Kovar and wife, Kathy, of Caldwell; four grandchildren, Brent Kovar and wife, Stacy, Lance Kovar and wife, Heidi, Rachel Allen and husband, Chris, and Justin Kovar and wife, Rebecca; 11 great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jacob Kovar, Matthew, Caleb and Logan Allen, Landon, Rylan, Madalyn and Noah Kovar and Jaina and Kane Kovar; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Joshua Kovar, Matthew Allen, Caleb Allen, Logan Allen, Jacob Kovar, Landon Kovar, Rylan Kovar and Noah Kovar.

Honorary pallbearer was Kane Kovar.
