Michael Rhodes, 81, of Somerville passed away Monday, March 20, 2023.
Visitation was held at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville on Thursday, March 23, 2023, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
A celebration of life was held at First United Methodist Church of Somerville, Friday, March 24, 2023, 11 a.m. with Rev. Victoria Simons officiating.
Michael, affectionately known as Mike, was born in Lyons, Texas, where he attended school before transferring to Somerville School.
He attended Texas A&M where he was a member of the Core of Cadets and graduated from Sam Houston University with a degree in business.
Mike began his career with R.B. Butler Construction where he learned the metal building trade. He then went into business for himself, founding Rhodes Building Systems where he worked for 43 years.
Mike served as mayor for eight years and was on numerous boards. He was on the industrial board and the chamber of commerce. He served on the boards of the Sam Houston School of business and most proudly at Citizens State Bank for 30 years.
Mike was a lifelong member of United Methodist Church.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Nan Rhodes; brother, James Rhodes; and sister, Kay Allison Rhodes.
Mike leaves behind to cherish his memory, wife, Dottie (Doris) Rhodes; sons, Jason Rhodes (Christy), and Ryan Rhodes; daughter, Deeyn Rhodes (Lonzo Jackson); sisters-in-law, Gail Conner, Mary Brock (Frank); brother-in-law, Bubba Scott; grandchildren, Jack Rhodes and Zadie Jackson; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and church family.
