Obeta Mendoza Martinez, 80, of Caldwell, Texas, passed away on August 8, 2022, at home with family by her side.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., on Thursday, August 11, 2022; reciting of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 p.m. at Strickland Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. on August 12, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Obeta was born on June 30, 1942, in Buckholts, Texas, to Jose and Delores (Jaramillo) Mendoza.
After graduating from Buckholts High School, she married the love of her life, Martin Martinez, on July 22, 1961, in Cameron, Texas.
Obeta Martinez was a sweet and caring person and a very hard worker.
She worked at the Keller LadderCompanyformany years until they closed. She then went into house
cleaning for the remainder of her life.
She enjoyed spending time with family, friends, as well as faithfully attending church Mass at St. Mary’s Catholic church. She never missed church Mass unless she was sick.
Obeta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 61 years, Martin Martinez; her sister, Rosie Gonzales; and her five brothers, Tony, Joe, Floyd, Stephen, and Paul Mendoza.
She is survived by her two sons, Raphael Paul Martinez Sr. of Caldwell, Texas, and Steven Michael Martinez and wife, Leonila Lazo, of College Station, Texas; her brother, Jesse Mendoza of Cameron, Texas; her sister, Margaret Luna and husband, Philip, of Temple, Texas; and 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Serving as pallbearers are Floyd Mendoza Jr., Christopher J. Mendoza, Jose Gaucin, London Martinez, Frankie Paul Martinez, and Ralph Martin Martinez.
Honorary pallbearers are her great-grandchildren.
