SEVERA “VERA” MARTINEZ PINEDA

Severa “Vera” Martinez Pineda, 78, of Caldwell, passed away peacefully into the arms of our Lord and Savior on Monday, June 5, 2023, at Scott & White Hospital in College Station, Texas.

A public visitation will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the chapel at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell, Texas, followed by a Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 9, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Caldwell, followed by interment at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Severa Martinez Pine d a , l o v ing l y known as Vera, was born on November 8, 1944, to Pablo and Lucia (Reyes) Martinez in Washington County, Texas. She was the oldest of four siblings and the only daughter.

Vera grew up in the Rehburg community of Washington County. She enjoyed the simple country life.

Vera was an active member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church Community for twenty-one years as a choir member and attended several Somerville Stampede Rodeos.

Vera graduated from Burton High School Burton, Texas in 1964.

She met the love of her life, Juan (John) B. Pineda, Sr. i n Caldwell, Texas, at the Burleson County Fair and they were married on November 26, 1966, in Somerville, Texas.

Vera and Juan made their home in Caldwell, Texas, and to this union came four children: Andrea, Rebecca (Becky), John and Olivia.

Through the years, Vera was dedicated to serving others. She was best known as “Mrs. Vera” when she served the children of First Baptist Church as their “Lunch Lady.” She prepared delicious meals for them since her retirement twenty- one years ago.

Vera’s hobbies included, cooking her favorite meals, needlepoint, sewing, bird watching, planting her favorite plants, making homemade Rosaries, and watching HGTV or sports, cheering on her Burton Panthers.

Most of all Vera loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved preparing their favorite meals and spending quality time with them.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Our Lady of Lourdes, and St. Mary’s Rosary Circle as well as St. Mary’s Altar Society and Mount Carmel Rosary Guild of St. Joseph Church in Bryan, Texas.

Her family is grateful for her life and faithful devotion to our Lord Jesus Christ, her husband, and her family.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents, Pablo and Lucia Martinez; her in-laws, Lorenzo and Antonia Pineda; three sistersin- law, Geneva Martinez, Siana (Pineda) Spears, and JoAn (Pineda) Montelongo.

She is survived by her husband of fift y-six years, Juan (John) Pineda, Sr. of Caldwell, Texas; her daughters, Andrea and her husband, Jessie Enrique, of Caldwell, Texas, Rebecca and her husband, Karl Thomason, of Austin, Texas, and Olivia Pineda of Caldwell, Texas; and one son, John Pineda, Jr. and his wife, Bonnie Pineda, of La Grange, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jessica, Jessie Enrique III, Lauren, Kathryn and Patrick Thomasson and Ella Claire Busch Pineda; siblings, Nonito and his wife Elma Martinez of Cameron, Texas, Lalo Martinez of Bryan, Texas, and Theodore Martinez of Temple, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations in Vera’s honor be sent to St. Mary’s Our Lady of Lourdes Altar Society, St. Mary’s Rosary Circle at 500 W.
