Sylvester Ray Charanza

Sylvester Ray Charanza, 67, of Caldwell, Texas, passed away Friday, May 5, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

The family received guests for a public visitation at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell on Monday, May 8, 2023, from 5:007:00 p.m.

Funeral services were held at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home.

Sylvester Ray Charanza (Slick) was born to Raymond Joe Charanza and Barbara Mae Collins on August 27, 1955, in Houston, Texas. He was one of four children.

Slick met his future wife, Linda Marie Furtado in Caldwell and married her in Brenham on April 19, 1992. Added to this union were two beautiful daughters, Dana Marie Furtado and Erin Leigh Furtado (Romano).

Slick was an owner/ operator truck driver, a rancher, and he retired as a salesman in the oil industry. He enjoyed barbecuing, fishing, working cattle, traveling and just life itself. He loved his family and being “Papa” to his grandchildren Caspian, Salvatore and Mila.

Slick was loved by so many and he will be remembered for his quick wit, gift of gab and his piercing blue eyes.

Slick was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Joe and Barbara Mae Charanza; brother, Johnny Lawrence Charanza; paternal grandparents, John George Charanza and Christina Kazmir Charanza; and maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Minnie Collins.

Slick is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Charanza; daughters, Dana Furtado, and Erin Romano and her husband, Sal Romano; grandchildren, Caspian Collier, Sal-vatore and Mila Romano. He is also survived by his sisters, Barbara Ann Charanza and her husband, Pete Saldana, Gertrude Ann Stifflemire (Cookie); nieces and nephews, Bonnie Berlanga, Barbara Joy Harrison (BJ), Paul Harrison, Megan and Kaleb Harrison, Candace Stifflemire, Haley and DJ Cumby, Jenny and Josh Hamilton and Graceē Stifflemire.
