TOM MCCARTHY

A private memorial service for Tom McCarthy, 72, of Dime Box, will be held at a later date.

Mr. McCarthy passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021, at a hospital in Temple.

John Thomas “Tom” McCarthy III was born on May 24, 1949, in Fort Worth, Texas, to John Thomas McCarthy Jr. and Gardina Vlasta (Krenek) McCarthy.

He served in the U.S. Army from October 24, 1968, until September 25, 1971, achieving the rank of SP4 working as a diesel mechanic.

After returning to the states, he put his Army training to use. He began driving a truck, worked as an electrician in the Lee County area and worked in the yard at Woodson Lumber Company in Lexington before receiving VA disability from his exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam.

Tom enjoyed seeing different parts of the United States as a truck driver, fishing, hunting and feeding the deer and other wildlife in his front yard.

He would always find time to visit with his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, John McCarthy Jr., and his mother, Gardina Kamrath.

Tom is survived by numerous cousins, extended family, and friends.

Memorials may be made to an American Legion Post or VFW Post of one’s choice.
