Valeria Marie Skweres was born on April 9, 1933, in Brenham, Texas, to parents, Steve and Mary (Januszewski) Skweres.
She grew up on her parent’s farm and attended local schools.
On February 3, 1957, Valeria was united in marriage to Clarence William Schoppe, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brenham.
Valeria and Clarence made their home in Somerville and raised their family together. Valeria loved being a mother and took great joy in caring for her family.
She was a dedicated homemaker and loved to serve others. She taught her children by example to be a hard worker and a generous person. Valeria always put her family first, and would make sacrifices for them without a second thought for herself.
Valeria’s Catholic faith was deeply important to her.
She joined St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Somerville following her marriage to Clarence, and she remained a member there for the rest of her life. She attended church every single Sunday, rain or shine.
She was involved with the St. Ann’s Ladies’ Altar Society and she volunteered wherever she could.
In her older years, she enjoyed spending time at the Somerville Senior Citizen’s Center. She would help with food preparation and anything else she could find. If she saw something that needed to be done, she would step in and handle it.
Valeria was known for being sweet and lovable, no matter her circumstances. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Valeria is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence William Schoppe; their sons, Wayne and Timothy; her father, Steve Skweres; mother, Mary Skweres Derkowski; siblings, Freddy Skweres, Dorothy Brending, Edward Skweres, Johnnie Skweres, and Bennie Derkowski.
