Hornets fall behind early, lose to Brenham 71-42

The Caldwell Hornets struggled with Brenham’s aggressive fullcourt press and fast break offense in a 71-42 road loss last Tuesday, Nov. 21. The Cubs, capitalizing on their defensive pressure, scored 31 points of Hornet turnovers after a fast start -- a 26-7 first quarter lead.

Hornet football players earn All-District honors

The Caldwell Hornets football team had one player earn All-District 12-4A First Team honors and eight players named to the All District Second Team. The Hornets also placed four players on the All District Honorable Mention Team.

JUST AS EXPECTED -- I predicted the #11 LSU Tigers to take care of the Texas A&M Aggies to the tune of 4220. It was a pretty close call, with LSU pulling it out 42-30 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I can just hear the Garth Brooks song blaring from the stadium.

Hornets pull away in 4th quarter to defeat Somerville 55-48

The Caldwell Hornets hit some key shots late to break out of a close game and defeat Somerville 55-48 on Monday in Caldwell. The Hornets improved to 2-2 for the season while Somerville fell to 1-1. Caldwell had opened with a 43-31 road loss to College Station on Nov.

The 11U Caldwell Swarm Baseball team concluded its fall schedule with a 15-5 victory over the Brazos Valley Bucks to claim the Brazos Valley Five Tool Fall League Championship.

Lady Hornets place third in Caldwell Tourney

Last week, the Lady Hornets hosted their second annual Caldwell Lady Hornet Basketball Tournament, and the host team placed third. Caldwell began the tournament onThursday, taking on Snook -- beating the Lady Jays 34-23.

Somerville’s Abigail Flencher and Snook’s Alexis Macik recently were named to the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) 2023-2024 Acacdemic All-State Volleyball Team. Flencher and Macik were both First Team selections.

DALLAS DOES IT -- When I threw out a prediction that the Dallas Cowboys were going to beat the Carolina Panthers 35-17, I sure didn’t know it was going to be anywhere close. Dallas did it, winning the game by a pretty close margin of 33-10.
