Hornets fall 26-7 in finale at Smithville

Caldwell had two backs rush for over 100 yards and cashed in on a long interception return to set up a scoring drive, but the Hornets lost their finale at Smithville last Friday 26-7. The Hornets finished 0-10 overall while Smithville improved to 3-7.

Janac places 61st at state meet, improves time

In a major improvement in a highly competitive race, Snook’s Ethan Janac shaved over two minutes off his time from last year and finished 61st out of 146 runners last weekend at the State Cross Country Meet in Round Rock.

After last Monday’s bidistrict win over Young Women’s College Preparatory Academy (YWCPA) of Houston, the Lady Hornets traveled to Georgetown to take on Burnet in the area round of the UIL Class 4A Volleyball Playoffs.
Janac was the only Burleson County runner to qualify for the UIL State Cross Country Meet. And, last Saturday, he finished 61st out of 147 runners in the Class 2A boys race with a time of 17:47.60.

Under first-year head volleyball coach Wendy Weiss, the Lady Hornets made the playoffs, won their bi-district match and have advanced to the Area round. Though, “first-year volleyball coach” is a stretch, considering the tenure Weiss has had in Caldwell.

Caldwell battles well but falls to Giddings 29-14

Caldwell’s new defensive look, implemented in the Cuero loss last week, looked better in last Friday’s 29-14 home loss to Giddings, keeping the Hornets in the game and giving them a chance.
