Area cross country teams race in Caldwell Invitational

All three Burleson County cross county teams opened their 2023 season last Saturday morning at Davidson Creek Park in Caldwell for the annual Caldwell Cross Country Invitational. And, after the meet, the Lady Hornet cross country team has one team title under its belt.

Bluejays battle in second half, fall to Iola 27-24

Snook rallied from a 21-12 deficit with two scoring drives to lead in the fourth quarter, but Iola responded quickly for the clinching TD in the final minutes and won 27-24 last Friday in Snook.

Somerville starts slow, falls to Thrall 42-14

The Somerville Yeguas got off to slow start against the fast-paced Thrall offense, giving up 343 yards and four firsthalf TDs, and lost 42-14 in the opener at home last Friday. Somerville trailed 42-0 heading into the fourth before putting together two scoring drives.

Lady Yeguas compete in Anderson Tournament

Last week, the Lady Yeguas were 1-5 in the Anderson-Shiro Volleyball Tournament including a Burleson County loss to Caldwell in straight sets 17-25, 14-25. Somerville’s win was over Buffalo in three sets 22-25, 25-13, 25-13.

Hornets fall to Groesbeck 31-6 in opener at home

The Caldwell Hornets looked tough and aggressive on defense, holding Groesbeck scoreless until the last three minutes of the first half, but wore down in the final minutes in a 31-6 opening loss last Friday at home.

CJH 8th-grade volleyball teams beat Rockdale

The Caldwell Junior High volleyball teams opened the 2023 season on Aug. 24, going 3-1 against Rockdale. Eighth-Grade A Team The eighth-grade A team easily beat the Lady Tigers 25-6, 25-5. Coach’s comments included: “Great team effort from each player.” “Dominated the match.
