CHS JV volleyball loses home opener

The Lady Hornet JV hostedAggieland Home-School in its home opener last Tuesday, Aug. 15, losing to the Lady Panthers in straight sets 11-25, 10-25. Stats from the match included: Adeline Hicks, four digs; Kylie Vogler, one kill; Kiera Wolf, one ace.

Yeguas building on last year’s momentum

The Somerville Yeguas are looking to build on the progress of the 2022 football season. If the Yeguas can play an entire season as they did the six-game district stretch, Somerville could be one of the Brazos Valley’s biggest football stories in 2024.

Snook looking for improvement in 2023

The Snook Bluejays have some good skill position experience returning for 2023 but will need help from their young offensive and defensive lines to improve. The Bluejays finished 4-6 overall and 2-4 in district play last year and missed a playoff berth.

Lady Jays place 3rd in Silver Bracket in Navasota Tourney

The Snook Lady Jays bounced back from losing all three games in pool play at the Navasota Varsity Volleyball Tournament last week to earn third place in the Silver Bracket. As of press time, no stats were available.

Lady Yeguas go 1-1 to start 2023 season

In the first week of the 2023 season, the Lady Yeguas were 1-1, falling to the Brazos Valley Mustangs last Tuesday, but rebounding to beat ILTexas on Friday. Tuesday’s home and season opener against Brazos Valley saw Somerville fall in straight sets 13-25, 1225, 21-25.

Hornets work on their game at Academy scrimmage

The Caldwell Hornets scrimmaged atAcademy last Saturday as new head coach Sean Witherwax got his first look at his team in a game-like setting. Caldwell scored one touchdown and gave up some TDs in a threeway scrimmage that also involved the JV, and Witherwax said his team learned a lot.

Caldwell HS team tennis opens 2023 season

The Caldwell tennis team opened up its season on the road in Bryan in a three-way event with Bryan High and Rudder on Tuesday and then went to Madisonville on Friday to take on the Mustangs and Palestine. On Tuesday, Caldwell fell to Bryan High 4-15 and to Rudder 6-13.
