The Caldwell Hornets lost two road district games last week, 65-35 on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at La Grange and 74-39 on Friday, Jan. 23, at Giddings.Against La Grange, Caldwell trailed 19-6 in the first quarter and 36-16 at halftime.

Lady Yeguas get first district win of the season

Somerville freshman Janaya Isom earned a double-double on Thursday, leading the Lady Yeguas to their first district win of the season, beating Hearne at home 54-42.The game was played Thursday instead of Friday due to expected poor weather.

All three area high schools competed at the Somerville Powerlifting Invitational last Friday at the Yegua Center.In the boys meet for the Texas High School Powerlifting Association (THSPA), Caldwell placed second as a team with 33 points, behind first place Lexington with 38 points.

Lady Hornets fall to Navasota, Smithville

On Tuesday, Jan. 13, the Lady Hornets hosted Navasota, falling to the Lady Rattlers 37-30.Mayzi Witherwax led Caldwell in scoring with 13 points.Other scorers for Caldwell were: Ireland Morgan, eight points; Kaely Brown, four points; Hannah Rae Clark, three points; Lydia Hicks, two points.
