Kovasovic, Mota lead county’s District 26-2A volleyball selections

With Fayetteville winning the UIL Class 1A State Volleyball Championship over Blum 25-15, 25-23, 25-22 on Nov. 18, the District 26-2A officials were finally able to release the district’s All-District selections.

Hornets rally in the fourth, beat Anderson

The Caldwell Hornets used a strong fourth quarter rally to defeat Anderson 67-58 on Nov. 23 in Anderson. The Hornets, trailing 53-46 heading into the final period went on a 21-5 run in the fourth to win it. Caldwell improved to 2-1.

Caldwell Lady Hornets improve to 4-2 for the season

Led by Jae Mathis scoring in double digits in each of Caldwell’s games last week, the Lady Hornets beat Burton and Victoria St. Joseph’s to go 2-0 during Thanksgiving week, improving to 4-2 for the season.

National Finals Rodeo begins this week for Caldwell’s Hughes

Caldwell’s Westyn Hughes will begin competing in his second PRCA National Finals Rodeo (NFR) this week. The NFR will be held at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Dec. 2-11.

Lady Jays to host bball tournament this week

The Lady Jays are set to host their annual girls basketball tournament this week, Dec. 2-4. Thursday’s and Friday’s games are for pool play. Snook will be playing in Pool A, along with Anderson-Shiro, Rudder and Elgin.

Tre Burns

During Caldwell’s 67-58 win over Anderson-Shiro last week, Burns led the Hornets in scoring with 16 points. He also pulled down eight rebounds -- three offensive and five defensive -- and had three assists.

Jakayla Kearney

Last week against Smithville, Kearney was key to Snook’s one-point (42-41) win. She led the Lady Jays with 20 points -- making six baskets, including two three-pointers and was 6 of 10 from the free throw line.

Lady Jays edge Smithville for a one-point 42-41 victory

Snook’s Jakayla Kearney was a dominating force for the Lady Jay offense in their onepoint road win over Smithville last Tuesday. Her 20 points was just enough to hand Snook the 42-41 win for the Lady Jays’ first win of the season.
