SHS powerlifting hosts invitational

The Somerville powerlifting hosted its annual Somerville Invitational Meet on Feb. 8 at the Yegua Center.La Grange and Normangee attended the meet to compete with Somerville.La Grange won the boys team title and was second in the girls team standings.

Lady Jay powerlifters compete at Anderson

The Lady Jay powerlifters traveled to Anderson to lift in the Anderson-Shiro Girls Meet 3 on Feb. 12.Three lifters earned gold at the meet: Lesly Vasquez, Azul and Maytte Arredondo.

Hornets open with 3-2 win over Academy

The Caldwell Hornets opened their baseball season on Monday, Feb. 17, with a 3-2 road win over Little River-Academy, drawing a walk in the final extra inning to score the winning run.With the game tied 2-2, Caldwell’s Chase Faust drew a walk to score Coy Becka from third.

Hornets finish season with loss at Navasota

The Caldwell Hornets completed their season last Friday with a 69-49 road loss to Navasota.The Hornets finished their season 12-20 overall and 2-8 in district play.Caldwell kept it close in the first half, particularly with a 13-6 second quarter run that cut Navasota’s lead to 23-21 at halftime.

CHS powerlifting competes at Waller Bulldog Invitational

The Caldwell boys and girls powerlifting teams traveled to Waller last week to compete in the Bulldog Invitational Powerlifting Meet, and the Hornets placed third in the team standings.The Caldwell boys team earned third with a score of 11 points.

Lady Hornets take second at Columbus Tournament

The Caldwell Lady Hornets golf team place second on Wednesday, Feb. 12, at the Columbus Tournament, and the boys team, playing Monday, Feb. 10, placed fifth.The girls placed second behind Bellville with a score of 432 on a rain soaked course. The tournament was rained out on Tuesday, Feb. 11.

Danbury holds off Lady Jays in fourth for bi-district win

In the new University Interscholastic League’s playoff system, the Lady Jays found themselves playing in the Class 2A Division I playoff bracket as the District 26-2A runner-up for Division I.

Lady Jays play at Madisonville Tourney

Snook officially began its softball season at the Madisonville Tournament last week.The Lady Jays opened the tournament against host team Madisonville, falling to the Lady Mustangs 5-1.Kalyn Cooper was 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI to lead the Snook offense.

CHS’ Dewberry named Newcomer of the Year

Caldwell’s Ayanna Dewberry was named District 22-4A’s Co-Newcomer of the Year.Dewberry, a freshman, was honored for this position along with Giddings’ Karli Majewski.
