THE BURLESON COUNTY LITTLE LEAGUE Minor All-Star Softball Team won the Texas East Section 1 title last week in Elgin and qualified for the Texas East State Tournament, beginning July 2 in El Campo. The team includes Avery Balboa, Bailey Barnes, Paisley Brack, Mckayla Collins, Jesenia Herrera, Macee Lewis, Karlee Praesel, Zoey Gausin, Braely Polasek, Carly Sheppard, Olivia Zamora and Caegan Kouatli. The team is coached by Adrian Sheppard, Haley Balboa and Flo Ortega.

Burleson County’s Little League Minor All-Star Softball is the Texas East Section 1 8-10 champs and have advanced to the 8-10 year old Texas East State Tournament.Burleson County will face the winner of the Section 3 championship this Friday, July 12, at 8 p.m. at Heritage Field in El Campo.

Yeguas compete in 7on7 State Tournament

Members of the Yegua football team competed in Division 3 in the Texas State 7on7 Tournament at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex in College Station last weekend.Division 3 was for schools that competed in Class 1A through 3A-D2.

Caldwell’s Westyn HugheswontheTie-Down Roping title at Rodeo de Santa Fe in Santa Fe, New Mexico, over June 19-22.Hughes earned the overall average title with 19.6 seconds on two head, earning $1,764.He won the first round at 8.9 seconds, earning $1,176, and was sixth in the second round at 10.

Students in Somerville ISD will be met with new science curriculum in 2024-2025.On June 20, the Somerville School Board approved the purchase of new science curriculum -- not to exceed $75,000 -- from SAVVAS Learning Company.The curriculum is an 8-year adoption.

After being bucked off Saunder’s Test Flight in the first round in 2.11 seconds, Snook’s Lance Lara had an impressive ride score on Hard Rock to claim the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Stockyards Showcase.The event was at the Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth on June 20.

The Lady Hornets completed their summer league season by playing in the gold bracket of the ASVL Tournament, finishing fourth.The team lost their first match against Brazos Christian 2325, 21-25 and then lost the third place match to Teague 23-25, 1725.
