Caldwell native Charlie Krueger, who played defensive tackle for the San Francisco 49ers in the National Football League (NFL), died on Friday, Feb. 5, in Clayton, Calif.
Krueger, 84, played 16 years with the 49ers and had his No. 70 jersey retired in 1974, one of only 12 in franchise history. He was also named to the 49ers Hall of Fame in 2009.
