City, school elections filings end Friday

Those wishing to file for a position on local city councils and school boards have until this Friday, Feb. 13, at 5 p.m.The election for those city council and school board positions will be Saturday, May 2.Caldwell City Council will have two seats up for election: those held by Jessie Enrique, Jr.

Man charged in elderly injury

A Somerville area man was arrested on Sunday, Feb. 1, on an injury to an elderly individual charge after an incident on County Road 278.Cedric Franklin Kaili Calles, 38, was charged and is now free on $4,000 bond, according to the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office.

Woman charged in unauthorized use of truck

A Caldwell woman was arrested on Tuesday, Jan. 27, on a felony charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in connection with a pickup truck and trailer taken on State Highway 36, just south of Caldwell.

Burleson County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a check fraud case involving $2,038 stolen from a Burleson County man who had written the check to a Harris County credit union.The man wrote the check and mailed it on Monday, Jan. 26, and learned from his bank on Wednesday, Jan.

A Caldwell area man was arrested on Saturday, Jan. 31, on a felony charge of assault with a previous conviction in connection with an attack on a woman on Private Road 2018.

Caldwell firefighters battle fires off F.M. 166, CR 377

Caldwell volunteer firefighters battled two grass fires on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 1, one off of F.M. 166 and another off of County Road 377, and contained them to pasture land with no structural damage.The fire at 1122 F.M. 166 was toned by Burleson County sheriff’s dispatched at 1:07 p.m.
