RRC issues no new oil, gas permits in November

The Texas Railroad Commission (RRC) issued no new oil well drilling permits in Burleson County in November.The RRC report is for newly approved permits in the county, not for drill sites which were previously permitted.

Local students earn wins in equine contests at FWSSR

Two local students earned top five honors at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo (FWSSR) Equine I.Q. and Equine Public Speaking Contests on Jan. 18-19.Cayle Canon from Caldwell finished second in the senior division in the FWSSR’s Equine I.Q. Contest winning a $10,000 scholarship.

Aubrey Lockhart, a 4-H member of Burleson County 4-H from Somerville was awarded a $500 Calf Scramble purchase certificate at the 2026 Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo.

Past District Governor Lisa Free Martin (first row, far right) was the installing officer.

Several local students achieved the honor rolls for the Fall 2025 semester at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.The students listed on the President’s Honor Roll are undergraduates who have achieved a perfect 4.

In June of 1974, nine-year-old Kathy Brandhuber stepped into Harrie P. Woodson Memorial Library for the first time. Already an avid reader, she says “being able to take home a stack of 10 books was an unimaginable treat. I still love the smell of ink and paper.

Those wishing to file for a position on local city councils and school boards have until next Friday, Feb. 13, at 5 p.m.The election for those city council and school board positions will be Saturday, May 2.The first day to file for the May 2 election was Wednesday, Jan. 14.
