Dorothy (Hlavaty) Woods

A Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy (Hlavaty) Woods, 82, of Caldwell, will be held on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Somerville, with Father Joven Saavedra serving as Celebrant.

Burial will follow at Holy Rosary Catholic Church Cemetery in Frenstat.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 5, 2021, at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell. Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m.

Mrs. Woods died on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2021, in Bryan.

Dorothy was born Sept. 21, 1938, in Caldwell, to Martin A. Hlavaty and Annie Elizabeth (Pivonka) Hlavaty.

Dorothy married the love of her life, Floyd Woods, on Dec. 28, 1974, at St. Christopher Catholic Church in Houston, Texas.

Dorothy enjoyed crafts, sewing and especially making fine drapery.

Having been older than some of her siblings, she was like a second mother to them when they would visit her and Floyd in Houston.

When her mother’s health started to decline, Dorothy and Floyd moved to the Caldwell area to care for her.

Dorothy was a loving, caring Christian lady who will be missed by all who knew her, family members said.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Annie Hlavaty; her brother, Joe Hlavaty; her brothers-in-law, Richard Shrum, Morris Woods, Julius Woods, and Frank Woods; and her sisters-in-law, Joan Saunders, Sybil Woods, and Winnie Woods.

Dorothy is survived by her loving family: her husband of 46 years, Floyd Woods, of Caldwell; her daughter, Joy Emberton and husband, Paul, of Austin; her siblings,Tony Hlavaty and wife, Nelda, of Damon, Texas, Andrew Hlavaty and wife, Jean, of Somerville, Martin Hlavaty and wife, Leigh, of Incline Village, Nev., Lucy Hodges and husband, Tom, of Somerville, Delphine Shrum of Sugar Land, Texas, and Daniel Hlavaty of Burton, Texas; her sister-in-law, Edith Woods of Jacinto City, Texas; her grandchildren, Megan Emberton and husband, Duncan Harris, of Ann Arbor, Mich., Graham Emberton of Stevens Point, Wis.; her great-grandchildren, Arlo Harris and Oscar Harris, both of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
