Services for Lawrence (Larry) Raymond Schoppe Sr., 92, of Fairborn Ohio, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday October 11, 2025, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Frenstat, with burial at the church cemetery.
He passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2025.
He was born on August 26, 1932, in Lyons.
He graduated from Somerville High School and was a graduate of Blinn College located in Brenham.
He enlisted in the United States Airforce in 1951 and retired in 1974 as a Master Sergeant with 23 years Honorable service.
Aircraft maintenance was his military area of expertise. He worked on a variety of aircraft and systems with both the Strategic Air Command (SAC) and The Military Airlift Command (MAC). He supported C-141 cargo aircraft during the Vietnamese war stationed in Ubon, Thailand. His last assignment was with B-52 bomber aircraft at Wright Patterson Airforce Base located near Dayton, Ohio.
After the military he finished his working career with the Bode Finn Company.
If anyone ever asked Mr. Schoppe what he did or was he would answer simply “a mechanic.” It was both his vocation and his hobby. And he was good at it. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems.
Mr. Schoppe was preceded in death by his mother, Frances; father, Raymond Schoppe; daught e r , Tere sa; sons, Robert and John Schoppe; sister, Mary Helen Schoppe; nephew, Paul Welch; and best friend, Frank Maldonado Sr.
Mr. Schoppe is survived by his son, Lawrence and wife, Sharon Schoppe; grandchildren, David Schoppe, Josh and wife, Katie Schoppe, and Sarah Schoppe; four greatgrandchildren; as well as his sisters, Veronica Fick and Judi Hargrove (Tony).
