Nellie Ruth Botts Clark, “Granny,” 96, of Caldwell, passed away on June 11, 2026, in Temple.
She was born on February 22, 1930, to Thomas Ralph Botts and Eula Mae Botts (Shanklin) in Gonzalez.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth B. Clark of 58 years; her inlaws, Jack and Adeline Clark; and her beloved son, Bruce Allen Clark She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Mandy Clark (Bruce); her granddaughter, Lacy Lanig (Jared); her stepgrandsons, Manuel Cazares (Justina), Aaron Cazares and her stepgrandsons, Ethan, Adam and Caleb. Mrs. Clark is also survived by Debbie La-Roche (Terry), a daughter she helped raise; and other family members and friends.
After graduation, Nell moved to Austin where she enrolled as a student at Durham’s Business and Junior College where she earned a certificate as an executive secretary. After graduation, she worked as a stenographer at the Texas Railroad Commission, Oil and Gas Division in Austin.
She married the love of her life, Kenneth, on June 19, 1949. After their honeymoon to New Mexico, they moved to Caldwell where she held several jobs, including the Chamber of Commerce, D.L. Alford Insurance, Burleson County Superintendent’s Office, Burleson County Tax Office, Lone Star Gas Company, and the State Department of Public Welfare.
In 1970, Nell went to work for Texas A&M University in College Station as a secretary, and, finally, she started working at Caldwell Junior High School.
Nell was a member of First United Methodist Church in Caldwell since 1949, where she was active in the choir, Bible Study, secretary, and member of several committees.
Nell was also a long-time volunteer at the old Goodnight Memorial Hospital and the Christian Care Center.
Nell loved to write poetry and to study the Bible and did a lot of Bible research.
She loved to cook and crochet.
Pallbearers will be Manuel Cazares, Aaron Cazares, Lee Clark, Kenny Sefcik, Rocky Del Toro and Rene Del Toro.
Honoree Pallbearers are Bruce Smith and Randy Donan.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home, 404 W. Buck St., in Caldwell.
Funeral service will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell.
Burial will follow the service at Masonic Cemetery on West 12th St. in Caldwell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to East Highway Baptist Church, 9828 State Highway 53, Temple, Texas 76501.
