Richard Dwaine Stone

Richard Dwaine Stone, 91, passed away on May 28, 2026, at Seton Medical Center in Harker Heights.

Richard was born in Hope, Arkansas, on May 16, 1935, to John Carey (Jake) Stone and Gladys Lucille Stone.

He graduated from Navasota High School and attended Rice University, where he earned a degree in business and later became a Certified Public Accountant.

He began his career with Texas Instruments in Houston.

Richard excelled in academics and athletics, especially track, and was offered multiple college scholarships before choosing to attend Rice University.

He was an outstanding track star at Rice and was one of only two people that held the fastest times in the 100-yard dash. The other person was Silas Eddie Southern Jr., the man who ended up being his brother-in-law!

He loved flying in his younger years, working on old cars, gardening, working out at the gym, reading and working on puzzles.

Richard was known for his compassion, encouragement and genuine care for others.

His faith in Christ was central to his life, especially in his later years as he devoted himself to Bible study and prayer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Larry Stone; nephew, Carey Reece Stone; and Norma Jean Southern, the mother of his children.

Richard is survived by his daughters, Julie Cochran and husband, Bob, Janis Godby and husband, Steve; his grandchildren, Sarah Sims and husband, Skyler, Amy Jones and husband, Jason, Clint Godby and wife,Katy, Shelly Mannion and husband, Dylan, Cameron Cochran, and Jessy Riddick and husband, Logan; his nine great-grandchildren; and his sisters, GerryAdams and husband, Garry, and Sandy Tarver and husband, Steve.

The funeral service is scheduled forSaturday,June6,2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell.

Visitation is from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., before the service.
