ROY PHARIS JR.

Graveside services for Roy Pharis Jr., 77, of Dime Box, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Hranice Cemetery in Dime Box, with Tim Pitts officiating.

Edmund Roy Pharis Jr. was born on February 11, 1948, in Baytown, the son of Edmund Roy Pharis Sr. and Wanda Faye (Beaird) Pharis.

He graduated from Dime Box High School.

At a young age he met the love of his life, Linda Pietsch. The two were high school sweethearts and married on July 29, 1967, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings.

Together, they built their life on family ranch land in Dime Box, where they raised their sons and created a home filled with love, hard work, and strong values.

Roy served in the United States Army and Army Reserves for eight years.

Throughout his life, he worked as a welder and in construction, trades that suited his strong work ethic and hands-on nature.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dime Box, the Dime Box Volunteer Fire Department and the Dime Box Rodeo Association -- where he helped restore the Dime Box arena to its original condition.

In his younger years, Roy had a bit of a daredevil streak. There are many stories of his wild ways, and he managed to cheat death more than once.

As life went on, he poured that same fearless spirit into being a devoted husband, father and friend.

One of his greatest joys was spending time at youth rodeos with his boys, Kurt and Cody, proudly watching them ride bulls.

He loved working cattle on the ranch, usually with Winston, technically his son’s dog, though Roy didn’t mind claiming him.

Roy will be remembered as a patient and kind man who went above and beyond to help others. He consistently stood up for what was right, and he lived his values quietly but firmly.

He enjoyed staying busy, tinkering, fixing and working the land he loved.

Roy passed away on the morning of Tuesday, December 2, 2025, in Giddings.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Wanda Pharis Sr.; his in-laws, Ben and Lena Pietsch; his sister, Janice Dorsett; his niece, Cindy Dorsett; and his brotherin- law, Stewart Hervey III.

Roy is survived by his wife, Linda Pharis of Dime Box; his sons and daughters-in-law, Kurt and Laura Pharis of La Grange and Cody and Cristyn Pharis of Dime Box; his granddaughters, Shelbi Biskup and Adam of El Campo, Helena Pharis of Texas City, and Kinsley Gandy of Dime Box; and his great-grandchildren, Hudson Pharis of El Campo, River Hance of Texas City, and Hattie Biskup of El Campo. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Boyd and Rhonda Pharis of Dime Box; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Debbie and Floyd Kostelka of Dime Box and Diana and Lee Johnson of Dime Box; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Shirley and Edwin Kissmann of Giddings, Glennie Hervey of Giddings, and Kathy and Roy Willeford of Giddings; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
