The Lady Yeguas lost to Granger in three sets on Friday, but their head coach, Rachael Payne, is optimistic about the rest of the season. “I thought the girls played very well against Granger.

Snook junior high and high school competed in the Thrall XC Invite cross country meet this past Saturday, Aug. 29, with many new runners in the mix. Head Coach, Travis McFarland, said the meet was met with mixed results, but he is excited at the recent growth of the team.

The Number 26 Lady Jays struggled at home last week, falling to Number 1 Iola and Anderson-Shiro. Even with the losses, Snook made the Top 30 list in the latest Texas Girls Coaches Association poll, released on Aug. 31. Last Tuesday, Snook fell to Iola in straight sets 10-25, 9-25, 19-25.

The Lady Hornets found themselves competing in two five-set marathon matches this week, winning Tuesday’s match against Sealy and losing Friday’s match to Bellville. Coach Jane Anne Giese said, “Five set matches truly test the physical, mental and emotional abilities of the athletes.

The Lady Hornet junior varsity volleyball team went 1-1 , beating at home Sealy and falling to Bellville on the road -- and both in a hard-fought three sets. On Tuesday, Aug. 25, the Lady Hornets hosted Sealy and jumped out early in set one, winning the set 25-12.

CHS Lady Hornet XC teams place 3rd, 4th

The Caldwell cross country teams participated at a meet last week in Rockdale with both girls teams placing third and fourth. The meet was set up where four individual runner’s on a team have their times added together for a “team overall time,” and that time determines the ranking of the team.

The Snook Bluejays younger players got some valuable playing experience last year, and they are looking for that to pay off in 2020. The Bluejays finished 4-7 overall and 2-2 in district play in 2019, and their talent base for this year is highly regarded.
