Local artist asks for community support in national contest

Local artist Kevin Romero of Caldwell is looking to the community for support in The People’s Artist competition -- a nationwide art competition figureheaded by actor Johnny Depp in collaboration with The Art of Elysium Art Salon in Los Angeles, Califonia, and Colossal Fundraising.

After its eradication in the state over half a century ago, New World Screwworm (NWS) has returned to Texas, with the first case reported in a calf in Zavala County on Wednesday, June 3.

Man charged in sexual assault, stalking case

A Caldwell man was arrested on Monday, June 1, on felony warrants for sexual assault and stalking in connection with May incidents involving a woman.Marvin Devaughn Nelson was charged and is now free on $75,000 bond, according to the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office.

Commissioners OK’s insurance rates for county employees

Burleson County commissioners approved 2026-27 health insurance rates for county employees from the Texas Association of Counties (TAC) at the Monday, June 8, meeting, electing an option that maintains the same deductibles and out-ofpocket maximums as previous years.
