Hundreds of CJH students participate in ‘Big Event’

Last Friday, about 400 Caldwell Junior High students and staff went out into the Caldwell community to polish silver, clean and weed yards, wash windows and many more odd jobs -- all to give back to the Caldwell community during the school’s annual “Big Event.

County hears issues on cemetery

Some Burleson County residents are asking the county commissioners for more time to continue research into the proper boundary lines for Jerusalem Cemetery off State Highway 21 East before allowing a nearby subdivision development to continue.

‘Meet Lily Pu’

Lily Pu, a three-legged dog, is the subject of a book series by Diana Yarzagaray. (Both are pictured.) Lily Pu was rescued by Haven Animal Rescue of Texas (HART) and fostered and later adopted by Yarzagaray’s mother. See Lily Pu’s story inside.

Another threat probed, this time at CJH

Burleson County sheriff’s deputies are now investigating a second case of a Caldwell student threatening a school shooting, this time at Caldwell Junior High School.

Regional tennis

Caldwell and Somerville had student-athletes compete in regional tennis tournaments last week.See this week’s Sports Page for about their matches.

Hejl Estate to contribute funds for ER project

The Burleson County Hospital District is anticipating up to $1 million from the John E. Hejl Estate and perhaps as much as $2 million that could go towards their emergency room renovation project.

DAV meeting

Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 86 of Caldwell will have a meeting on May 16, at 6:30 p.m. at the Caldwell First Baptist Church’s Family Center.The chapter is asking that Burleson County Disabled Veterans come and join to keep this chapter open.

Food pantry

The Elizabeth Lutheran Church’s Community Pantry will be open Saturday, May 18, from 7:30-10 a.m.It is open every third Saturday of each month.
