The Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District has suspended any further action on building a new office and education center.The POSGCD Board voted 5-4 at its Tuesday, Feb. 13, meeting to suspend any further action after about a one-hour executive session.

Two candidates for Burleson County Sheriff, incumbent Gene Hermes and Somerville Police Chief Jake Sullivan, will run in the Tuesday, March 5, Republican Primary.There is no Democratic Party opponent, so the winner of the GOP primary will become sheriff.

Fire burns 20 round bales of hay off F.M. 1361

Twenty round bales of hay burned on Saturday morning, Feb. 10, in a metal building on 1218 F.M. 1361 just east of Somerville, and Somerville and Snook volunteer firefighters extinguished the blaze.The cause remains unknown, but no foul play is suspected, said Somerville Fire Chief Wayne Wilhelm.

Man charged in child sex assault

A Caldwell area man was arrested on Thursday, Feb. 8, on a sexual assault of a child charge in connection with a 2022 incident.Jordan Thomas Plentl, 21, was charged and remains in Burleson County custody on a $100,500 bond, according to the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office.
