A graveside service for Mr. Billy Wayne Welch, known to many as “Pa,” will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021, at Oaklawn Cemetery in Somerville.
Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021, at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell.
Mr. Welch died on Friday, Sept. 3, 2021.
Billy was born on March 25, 1937, to Noble Fisk Welch and Bessie (Jones) Welch. He was born in Munday, Texas, but grew up in Knox County.
Billy worked as a contract welder for most of his adult life. He held jobs in the oilfield that took him to many places in Texas.
Billy was united in marriage to Georgia Crosby on April 3, 1964. They enjoyed 57 years together prior to his passing.
Billy was a hardworking man who loved Jesus and loved his family and friends.
He and Georgia spent many wonderful evenings on the patio singing and listening to their favorite old country music, while enjoying their favorite beverage and each other.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Noble Fisk Welch and Bessie (Jones) Welch; and five siblings.
Billy is survived by his wife, Georgia Alma Welch; his son, Billy Wayne Welch of Somerville; his daughters, Rachelle Gaines of Midland, Sherry Lynne Soules of Somerville, and Melinda Suzanne Welch of Deanville; his grandchildren, Scott Gaines, Heather Benson, Brandi Soules, Cody Soules, Scotty Soules and wife, Larissa, Marcus Pratt and wife, Isabell, and Kimberly Hernandez and husband, Luis; his greatgrandchildren, Corbin, Jr, Anthony, Mason and Selena; and his loving nephew, Stephen Mitchell Latham.
Arrangements are under the direction of Strickland Funeral Homes.
