A funeral service for Deacon Warren Thomas Sr. was held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Old Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Tunis.
He was born on Dec. 25, 1926, in the Oldham Settlement, to Lovie and Dallas Thomas.
He was baptized at John Thee Baptist Church in Caldwell.
He graduated from Freeman High School in Caldwell in 1943.
In 1948, he was drafted into the United States Army as an enlistee and was stationed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina for one year before receiving an honorable discharge. Drafted again in 1950, he served two years during the Korean War and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal.
He married Stella Hodrick, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage, and together they had two children, Antonia Denise and Warren Thomas Jr.
He was actively involved in row crop farming (cotton and milo) and beef production. He was recognized as both a family scholar and historian. Mr. Thomas possessed a notable sense of humor and excelled in storytelling.
He died on Friday, August 22, 2025. He is survived by his daughter; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-greatgrandchild; two sisters; two brothers; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
