IRENE SCHUMACHER

Irene Schumacher, age 91, of Caldwell, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025.

A lifelong resident of Burleson County, Irene was known for her devotion to family, her enduring friendships and her gentle spirit.

Born on the family farm two miles north of Caldwell to Otto and Mary Lehde Prieve, Irene graduated from Caldwell High School in 1953.

After high school, she remained close to home, working on the family farm and supporting her parents.

On November 8, 1958, she married Edwin Schumacher. Together, they built a life full of love and laughter, dancing together every chance they got. Their marriage lasted 58 years until Edwin’s passing, and their bond remained a shining example of enduring commitment.

Irene was a dedicated homemaker and caregiver, especially known for providing childcare to many children in the community.

She had a deep love of reading, a warm and welcoming voice that friends enjoyed over long phone conversations, and an infectious joy for dancing with her beloved husband.

And her faith was celebrated at Elizabeth Lutheran Church.

After Edwin’s passing 8 years ago, Irene moved in with Ann and Daniel where she lived for 6 years before becoming a resident at Burleson Manor where she lived out her final days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin Schumacher; son, Dennis Schumacher; sisters, Ella Loehr, Mary Maresh, Ruby Vavra and Nora Skarpa; and brothers, Sam Prieve, Otto Prieve Jr. and Joe Prieve.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Ann (Daniel) Amaya; grandson, Matthew Ray (Savannah) Amaya; greatgrandson, Mason Wayne Amaya; and great-granddaughter, Brittan Nicole Blum.

A woman of grace, kindness, and quiet strength, Irene will be deeply missed by her family and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
