Milton E. Gaas, 88, of Bryan, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024.
Born on August 30, 1936, to Mary and Richard Gaas, he grew up in the close-knit community of Frenstat.
Working on his family farm, he learned the value of hard work at an early age.
He graduated from Somerville High School in 1954.
A proud patriot, Milton served his country with honor as a member of the United States Army and Army Reserves.
He was a man of deep faith, an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and was involved in the community.
He was a member of the American Legion Earl Graham Post 159 and the Monsignor Gleissner Knights of Columbus.
Milton graduated from trade school where he honed his craft as a skilled machinist. His dedication and talent led him to create his own successful business, Gaas Tool and Die, where he took immense pride in his work. His craftsmanship, work ethic and contributions to the industry earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and his community.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Gaas; his parents; and all 13 of his brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Melissa (Lisa) Poppell and her husband, Dean Poppell, of The Woodlands, and Kimberly Howell and her husband, Jeff Howell, of Cypress. He was the proud grandfather of Bret Howell (24), Brady Howell (21), and Brenna Howell (17), all of Cypress.
He was also blessed with the faithful and loyal friendship of Clayton and Wanda Dorn for over 40 years. Their unwavering support and companionship were a source of strength in his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to The American Legion Earl Graham Post 159.
A Rosary service was held at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 6, 2025, with visitation from 5-7 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1515 South College Avenue, in Bryan.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 507 E 26th Street, in Bryan.
Interment followed at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Milton’s legacy of faith, service and hard work will live on through the lives he touched. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
