WALTER “PAPPY” NITTSCHE

A funeral service for Walter M. Nittsche “Pappy,” 103, was held at noon on August 9, 2025, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Deanville.

Walter was born on April 6, 1922, in Fedor, to Ernst and Anna (Mattiza) Nittsche.

He attended school in the Fedor-Lincoln area.

In 1942, he joined the U.S. Army and went to CCC for six months in Yuma, Arizona. He fought in World War II in Leyte, Luzon, Philippines and Okinawa with the 1st Radio Squadron attached to the 5th Air Force. He was an intercept operator.

After his discharge from the service, he began farming in Burleson County before going to work in 1950 for the MKT Railroad in Houston, as a telegraph operator. Later that year he went on to work for the Union Pacific Railroad as a telegraph operator where he retired in 1985.

In 1944, Walter married Margaret Boehmer, the love of his life, in Dime Box. The two shared the same birthday.

In 1948, they welcomed their daughter, Martha Ann.

He died on July 13, 2025. Walter is survived by one daughter and her husband; one grandson and his wife; one greatgranddaughter; numerous brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, and many other family members and friends.
