Hornets lose 5 games at Houston County Tourney

The Caldwell Hornets, struggling with injuries and some illnesses, lost five games over the weekend at the Houston County Holiday Classic Tournament. Caldwell fell to 10-13 overall and was set to open district play on Tuesday, Jan, 2, at La Grange.

The Caldwell Junior High girls basketball teams split with La Grange in La Grange on Dec. 14 -- with the Caldwell seventh and eighth-grade A teams winning. Eighth-Grade A Team The eighth-grade A team outlasted the Lady Leps, winning 44-39 led byAyanna Dewberry with 19 points.

Snook Bluejays fall to Fayetteville, Hemstead, drop to 6-8 overall

The Snook Bluejays lost two home games last week, 80-51 to Fayetteville on Tuesday, Dec. 19, and 7248 to Hempstead on Thursday, Dec. 21. The Bluejays dropped to 6-8 overall. Against Fayetteville, Snook trailed 21-14 in the first quarter and 42-29 at halftime.

Snook Lady Jays soar past Fayetteville Lady Lions 42-31

After losing at home to Brazos Christian 45-24 on Monday, Dec. 18, the Lady Jays rebounded to add a “W” to their win column by outlasting Fayetteville at home 42-31.

Yeguas win the close ones, beat Holland 59-49, Bremond 51-50

The Somerville Yeguas are learning to win in the toughest of close games. Somerville defeated Holland on Dec. 12 at home 59-49 in overtime, breaking out of a 47-47 tie at the end of regulation with a 12-2 overtime run, and then sank a last second shot at Bremond on Monday, Dec. 18, winning 51-50.

Hornets defense excels in 61-49 home win over Sealy

The Caldwell Hornets grabbed some early momentum, using its defense to cause turnovers, and held on in a 61-49 home win over Sealy last Friday. Caldwell, which also lost 50-47 in overtime to Lexington on Dec. 12 at home, improved to 10-8 entering the holiday break.

Lady Hornets end 9-game losing streak with win over Austin Achieve

The Lady Hornets had to endure a ninegame losing streak, but that streak is no more, after Caldwell had an easy 65-5 home win over Austin Achieve last Friday at Hornet Gym. The Lady Hornet offense stepped up its game for this district win, as 65 was the most points they’ve scored all season.
