Somerville rallies to defeat Snook 20-14

The Somerville Yeguas scored on a five-yard quarterback keeper by Barrett Howe in the second overtime to defeat Snook 20-14 last Friday at Snook’s homecoming. Somerville claimed the Baker Highway trophy by winning the rival game, celebrating joyfully in post game and hoisting the trophy high.

Snook XC runs in Belton

The Snook cross country boys team ran in the Pro-Fit Last Chance Invitational last Thursday in Belton. Ethan Janac placed 14th in the 1A-4A varsity boys race with a time of 18:34.30. Shawn Easton finished 108th in the same race with a time of 27:15.60.

Somerv ille High School recently announced its 2023 Homecoming Court. The Homecoming Queen and King will be announced during the Somerville’s football game at 7 p.m. this Friday, Oct. 13, at The Rock. This year ’s queen hopefuls are Wendy Perez, Bryanna Surovik, Alazia Vela and Destiny Vela.

BAD WEEKEND -- What a difference a week can make. And not in a good way. Real bad or real good. Kind of like rain or shine. Last week I talked about how the Longhorns, Aggies, Texans, and Cowboys all won their games. But this week, it was just the opposite, with all four teams losing.

Last Friday, the Lady Hornet JV volleball team traveled to Austin, beating Achieve High in straight sets 25-16, 25-15. Individual leaders for Caldwell were: Adeline Hicks, four aces; Hannarea Clark, two kills; Makayla Jantzen, two digs.

All three area cross country teams ran in Saturday’s Yegua Invitational at Overlook Park. And, in the boys varsity race, Caldwell’s Dylan Chapman and Spencer Ellis finished second and fourth, with Snook’s Ethan Janac placing third.

Caldwell loses two to end Round 1 of district play

After being 4-0 in district, the Lady Hornets’ winning ways came to a halt last week as they had their toughest week in district play -- playing the 4-1 Taylor and 5-0 Giddings and winding up on the losing end in both matches.
