Hughson, Chapman place 2nd in Boys A Doubles The Caldwell High School tennis team traveled to Waco last week, competing in the Waco High Spring Tournament, with the duo of Connor Hughson and Waylon Chapman placing second in the Boys A Doubles division.

The Somerville Yeguas rallied in the fourth quarter, and used some heroics from Brandyn Carter in the final seconds to secure a 57-53 win over Iola last Friday in Bryan. The game determined the secondp lace seeding f o r Somerville in playoffs.

CHS hosts first home tennis tournament

The Caldwell tennis team hosted its first ever home tennis tournament last week at Caldwell High School, with the JV playing Thursday and the varsity on Friday.

Last week, both the Snook and Somerville softball teams traveled to Thrall to play in the Thrall Softball Invitational. Somerville Somerville was the first Burleson County team to compete on Thursday and drew the home team, falling to the Lady Tigerettes 7-1.

Last Friday at Hornet Stadium, soccer fans were treated to a defensive battle where a lone goal decided the District 244A game -- with Caldwell coming out on top 1-0 over Rockdale. Francisco Martinez scored the game’s only goal in the first half off an assist from Barret Yates.
Last week at the Caldwell Tennis Tournament, Zapata won the boys’ singles title by defeating teammate Dylan Chapman in the finals 6-2, 6-4. Zapata first beat Brady Branson of Thrall 8-0, before beating Max Pierre of Brenham 8-0 in the quarterfinals and Dalton McElroy of China Spring 8-4 in the semifinals.
