Last week, the Caldwell High School tennis duo of Conner Hughson and Waylon Chapman easily earned the boys’ doubles title at the Groesbeck Tennis Tournament. The pair won their first round 8-2. They then won their quarterfinal match 8-4 and their semifinal 8-2.

Last Saturday, Somerville High School hosted a Tri-Meet powerlifting event at the Yegua Center with Snook and Normangee. Normangee won a closely competitive boys’ team title with 35 points. Somerville was second with 29 points, and Snook was third with 27 points.

The Caldwell High School boys golf team took first place in the Caldwell High School Tournament on Monday, Feb. 6, at Copperas Hollow Country Club. The girls team, competing on Tuesday, Feb. 7, took second. The boys finished with a score of 351, ahead of Anderson-Shiro at 356.

The Lady Yeguas ended their basketball season with a 58-19 road loss to Normangee. Destiny Vela led Somerville with six points. The UIL Class 2A Playoffs began this week with District 262A champ Mumford scheduled to play West Hardin in the first round.

The Lady Jays opened their softball season at home Monday, beating Thrall in dramatic fashion with a walk-off 3-2 victory. With the game tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Payton Sodolak reached base on a dropped third strike, scoring Marissa Batiste from third for the win.

Snook rallies in second half, falls to Iola 70-55

The Snook Bluejays fell to Iola 70-55 last Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Iola. The Bluejays trailed 19-7 in the first quarter and 39-18 at halftime before improving in the second half. Snook went on a 21-12 run in the third to cut the Bulldogs’ lead to 52-39 headed into the final period.
