Brentwood Christian defeats Yeguas 42-13

The Somerville Yeguas fell to Brentwood Christian School 42-13 last Friday in their home opener in a rainy, lightning delayed game. Somerville held Brentwood Christian to a 7-7 tie into the second quarter before the weather delay, but the defense collapsed after that, surrendering five touchdowns.

Lady Hornets place third at Bellville XC Invitational

The Lady Hornet varsity cross country team placed third at the 2022 Bellville Cross Country Invitational, behind Sealy and host school Bellville. The Lady Tigers were first with a score of 27, and the Brahmanettes had a total score of 43. The Lady Hornets finished with a score of 60.

Hornets fall 35-7 to Robinson in game two

Turnovers proved costly for Caldwell in a 35-7 loss to Robinson last Friday in Robinson, dropping the Hornets to 0-2. Caldwell lost four of five fumbles and had one interception as the Rockets built leads of 28-0 at halftime and 35-0 in the third quarter.

Somerville XC runs at Valley Mills Cow Pasture Stampede

The Running Yeguas cross country team competed at the Valley Mills Cow Pasture Stampede last Saturday. Somerville’s Destiny Vela was girls’ top runner, f i n ishing 20th with a time of 15:32.6 in the varsity girls 2-mile run. Ariela Gutierrez of Rogers won the race with a time of 13:42.4.

Last week, the Lady Yeguas hosted Brazos Valley Homeschool, was on the road at Brookshire- Royal and played in the Cold Springs Varsity Tournament. On Tuesday, Somerville welcomed the Lady Mustangs, falling to BVCHEA in straight sets 21-25, 17-25, 10-25.

The Snook cross country team ran at the Cooper Dragon XC Invitational in Tomball last Saturday in the Boys Division 2 two-mile run. Ethan Janac was Snook’s fastest runner, finishing 25th with a time of 11:51.33.

The Snook Bluejays returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown, but Brazos Christian School responded with two scores to lead 14-7 last Friday before the game was delayed and then called off in the first quarter due to lightning.

Last week, the Lady Hornets went 1-1 at home, defeating Burton but falling to Sealy. Last Tuesday, Caldwell hosted Burton -- going five sets with the Lady Panthers -losing the first two sets to come from behind to win the match 9-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-19, 15-13.

The Lady Jays went 2-3 on Saturday to earn the consolation title at the Anderson-Shiro Volleyball Tournament. After losing to Buffalo 15-25, 10-25 on Saturday in bracket play, the Lady Jays rebounded to win their final two matches to bring home the consolation title.
