The Lady Hornet varsity cross country team placed second at the Caldwell Invitational last Saturday morning at Davidson Creek Park. The Caldwell girls ended up with a score of 66 points, behind Rogers with 24.

Lady Jays earn consolation title at Anderson-Shiro Tournament

The Lady Jays went 2-3 on Saturday to earn the consolation title at the Anderson-Shiro Volleyball Tournament. After losing to Buffalo 15-25, 10-25 on Saturday in bracket play, the Lady Jays rebounded to win their final two matches to bring home the consolation title.

Snook dominates in 12-0 win over Iola

Snook’s Lance Lara rushed for 101 yards and had three catches for 74 yards as the Bluejays won their opener 12-0 last Friday at Iola. Lara also scored both of the Bluejays touchdowns, on a 16-yard run in the second quarter and on a 23-yard pass from quarterback J. Beaux Hruska in the third quarter.

Somerville’s Ra’Maya Carter finished 17th in the varsity girls 2-mile race at the Thrall Cross Country Invitational last Saturday. Carter finished with a time of 14:33.09 -- a HEMPSTEAD’S HALEY HERBERT reaches to hit the ball while Somerville’s Ra’Maya Carter and Vivianna Munoz reach to block.

Turnovers costly in Yeguas loss to Thrall

Thrall’s fast-paced offense scored three touchdowns each in the first and second quarters in a 47-8 win over Somerville last Friday in Thrall. Somerville also helped the Tigers with seven turnovers.

Last week, the Lady Yeguas lost to Normangee and Hempstead with both matches played at home. Last Tuesday, Somerville hosted Normangee, falling to the Lady Panthers 5-25, 10-25, 14-25. Ra’Maya Carter was dominant on both sides of the net with three kills and three blocks.
