Lady Hornet golfers take 2nd at Huntsville Tourney

The Caldwell Hornets girls golf team took second place, and Maegan Schneider finished second individually at the Small School Spectacular Tournament on Feb. 18-19 at Raven’s Nest Golf Course in Huntsville. Schneider shot a 92 on Friday and an 89 on Saturday.

The Lady Hornets were a strong 6-1 last week, only losing to the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) Class 3A Number 10 Onalaska in the Madisonville Tournament. Caldwell began its season hosting Giddings, easily beating the Lady Buffs 15-0.

Last Saturday, the Somerville High School Gym held a capacity crowd with athletes, coaches, parents and fans attending the first powerlifting meet hosted by Somerville High School.

The Lady Yeguas lost a close home game last Tuesday night to Mumford 30-25 to end their district season. Mumford took an early 8-3 lead and was able to hold on for the win. Emma Kovasovic and Ra’Maya Carter led Somerville in scoring, each with nine points.

Caldwell Lady Hornets play their hearts out on Valentine’s Day

The Lady Hornets played with all their heart on Valentine’s Day in their first playoff game since the 1999-2000 season. However, Franklin experienced lineup was too much for the young Caldwell team with Caldwell falling 66-61. This Class 3A bi-district game was played at Cameron Yoe High School.

Hornet soccer sits 2nd in district

Last week, the Hornet soccer team won two games and improved to 5-1 in District 19-4A, sitting alone in second place with a lot on the line this week. Caldwell was scheduled to take on third place La Grange with its 4-1 record on Tuesday, Feb. 15.

The Lady Hornet varsity golf team placed second at the Caldwell Golf Tournament last week, and the junior varsity squad finished third. Cameron Yoe High School won the team title at the tournament.

The Hornets went 1-1 last week in road games, beating Rockdale and falling to Rogers. Last Tuesday, Caldwell had an easy time in Rockdale, beating the Tigers 74-27. Caldwell took an early 16-6 lead by the end of the first quarter, extending the lead to 24 points by halftime.
