Somerville looks for 4-1 start with win over Iola

The Somerville Yeguas will host Iola this Friday in a key game that could vault them into 2-0 in district play. Somerville, 3-1 and 1-0 in District 13-2A, is coming off a bye week for the Burleson County Fair, while Iola, 2-2 and 1-0 in district, is coming off a 53-6 district win over Milano.

Hornets looking for win over Lexington

The Caldwell Hornets, 2-2 after a Sept. 19 win at Smithville, will play their final non-district game this Friday at home against 5-0 Lexington.Caldwell, coming off a bye week, wants to get to 3-2, a major milestone, before launching district play on Oct. 10 at Giddings.

Caldwell cross country runs at Tejas Invitational

Spencer Ellis and Greenlee Conway were the top boy and girl cross country runners for Caldwell in the Tejas Invitational in Giddings last Friday.Ellis placed 10th in the boys varsity 5K Gold run with a time of 16:59.6.Logan Martinez of San Antonio Reagan won the race with a time of 15:21.5.

Lady Hornet vball stings Giddings to begin district

The Lady Hornets began district play last Tuesday, Sept. 23. with a three-set road win over Giddings 25-20, 25-21, 25-23.Sophomore Kierstyn Macik led Caldwell’s offense at the net with 12 kills.Lydia Giese also had a strong offensive showing with 18 assists and six kills.
