Caldwell High School angler Blake Elkins and the Caldwell FFA Bass Club began the 2025-2026 season on Sept. 13 at a tournament on Lake Limestone.Elkins was the lone Caldwell fisherman to catch any fish during the event, catching two fish for a total of 3.58 pounds -- placing him 48th.

The Somerville Yeguas rolled to a 55-0 win over rival Snook last Friday in Snook, improving to 3-1 overall while winning their district opener.Snook, playing its homecoming game, fell to 0-4.

In a season marked with milestones for many of the Lady Hornets, Lydia Giese reached one of her own during last Tuesday’s win over Latexo -- earning 19 assists during the match to reach her 1,000th career assist... in only her sophomore season.

The Caldwell Hornets had another productive offensive showing wth 481 total yards, balancing run and pass, in a 49-34 road win over Smithville.Caldwell improved to 2-2 overall with an open date this Friday before facing Lexington on Friday, Oct. 3, in the last non-district game.

A HUGE UPSET When I picked the #16 Texas A&M Aggies to pull off a 31-27 upset of the #8 Notre Dame Fighting Irish, I had no idea it would be even more highscoring than that!I was right about the upset, but not quite on the final score as A&M pulled out a last-second touchdown to win 41-40.

The Lady Jays finished seventh in the team standings at the Lexington Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.Snook had an overall score of 189.Giddings won the team title with a score of 22. Riesel was second with a score of 75, and Granger was third with a score of 85.

The Snook Bluejays struggled in a 50-8 road loss to Normangee last week that included a long delay in the second quarter as Jimmy Kearney was taken from the field by ambulance after an injury.Team members huddled nearby and prayed for Kearney as medics helped him at the scene.
