Somerville opens strong in 34-18 win

The big question on everyone’s mind as Somerville opened last Friday at Normangee was could the Yeguas pick up where they left off last year.Despite the loss of some key seniors off the 2024 district championship season, the Yeguas responded with a strong second half in a 34-18 victory.

The Caldwell Hornets rallied from deficits of 19-13 at halftime and 2619 in the third quarter with four unanswered touchdowns in the second half to win their opener last Friday 47-32 over Crockett.

Lady Jay volleyball beats Hempstead in home opener

Last Tuesday, Aug. 19, the Lady Jays played their first match at home, beating Hempstead in four sets 2515, 25-12, 20-25, 25-7.Dakota Kienow led the charge at the net for Snook with 16 kills and two blocks.Marissa Batiste had a strong match with 27 assists and five kills.

Snook hopes to open strong against NBCA

Snook will host New Braunfels Christian Academy in its Friday opener in a game they hope will set the tone for an improved season.Snook finished with only a forfeit win last year, essentially a winless season, so a 1-0 start would be huge.

Somerville to open on the road at Normangee

The Somerville Yeguas head into a new season this Friday at Normangee, trying to build on the momentum of a championship season last year.The game will be the debut for new Somerville Head Coach Luke Klingler, who served since 2022 on Philip Roberts’ staff before being promoted.

Lady Yeguas finish third in home tournament

The Lady Yeguas hosted the Somerville Volleyball Tournament last Thursday and Saturday and placed third in their own tourney.In the first tournament match for Somerville in Pool A on Thursday, Somerville fell to Hempstead 2516, 23-25, 11-15.

Hornets prepare for opener against Crockett

The Caldwell Hornets open their season this Friday at home against Crockett, hoping to start the year 1-0.Caldwell Head Coach Sean Witherwax said Crockett has a lot of athletes and can break a play or long run at any time.“We have to stop them before they get started,” Witherwax said.
