Janac has qualified for the UIL State Cross Country Meet for the third time by placing seventh in the 2A boys’ race at the Class2A Region IV Cross Country Meet on Monday.He finished the 5K with a time of 17:55.99.

During the Lady Hornet loss to Number 1 Bellville last week, McManus led Caldwell in four categories: kills (five), digs (11), blocks (2) and serves received (21).

The Lady Yeguas only had one match last week -- a win over Hearne at home 25-8, 25-12, 25-8.Karys Ellis led Somerville with eight kills and three blocks.Vivianna Munoz served seven aces in the win.Somerville was scheduled to travel to rival Snook on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

The Lady Jays split their district matches last week, beating Hearne on the road Friday and falling to Mumford at home last Tuesday.Last Friday, Snook easily defeated the Lady Eagles 25-8, 25-6, 25-9, led by Dakota Kienow with seven kills.

SHOCKING LOSS -- Well, kind of. When I said the #1 Texas Longhorns weren’t going to cover the point spread at home against the #5 Georgia Bulldogs, I was right.But it all went wrong. And way wrong, when the Bulldogs broke the chain on both sides of the ball and rumbled to a 30-15 upset in Austin.

Snook struggles in 36-2 home loss to Milano

The Snook Bluejays lost to Milano 36-2 last Friday in Snook.The Bluejays fell to 0-7 for the season and 0-4 in district play.Snook’s first-half score occurred when a Milano punt was snapped over the kicker’s head, and he stepped out of the back of the end zone.

Caldwell’s Spencer Ellis ran at the Class 4A Region III Cross Country Meet on Monday at Kate Barr Ross Memorial Park in Huntsville, finishing 78th.He finished the 5K boys race with a time of 18:21.50.Tyler Hamblin of Marble Falls won the race with a time of 15:33.90.

Last week, the Lady Hornets went 1-1 at home in District 224A, falling to Number 1 Bellville in straight sets on Tuesday and beating Navasota in straight sets on Friday.

Last Thursday morning, Snook and Somerville cross country runners competed in the District 26-2A Cross Country Meet at Davidson Creek Park in Caldwell -- with the Snook boys placing third in the team standings and advancing to the regional meet.

The Caldwell team tennis team remains undefeated and has advanced to the UIL Class 4A Team Tennis Regional Tournament after beating Wharton in the regional quarterfinals Tuesday morning at Waller High School.Wharton is ranked as the Number 3 team in Class 4A’s Region III.
