Snook wins district golf championship

The Snook Bluejays won the District 26-2A golf championship on April 1 at Hiltop Lakes Golf Course in Normangee.It was the third consecutive year that the Bluejays won the district golf title.

Somerville’s Howe wins district golf title

Somerville’s Barrett Howe shot an 84 to win the district golf championship in the individual competition on April 1 at Hilltop Lakes Golf Course in Normangee.Howe was Somerville’s only golfer competing, and it was the only meet he competed in this year.

Coston, Golson lead Lady Hornet soccer All-District honors

After a historic season, the Lady Hornet soccer team had 10 players named to the District 24-4A All-District Team -- including Cadie Coston named Offensive Player of the Year.Also, Head Coach Cayla Golson was selected as the Coach of the Year for the district.

Before coming to Snook to lead the Lady Jays softball team this season, Head Coach Ashley Currington has several years of experience coaching on the high school level, as well as being a collegiate player at Sam Houston State University.

Hornets get to 5-0 with Manor New Tech win

The Caldwell Hornets remained undefeated in district play with an 8-2 road win over Manor New Tech last Saturday.Caldwell, 12-7-1 overall and 5-0 in district play, trailed 1-0 in the first inning before adding two runs in the top of the second and then never relinquished the lead.

Snook loses 2 to Burton, falls to 3-5 in district

Snook lost a two-game series to Burton last week, 16-0 on Tuesday, April 2, at home and 15-2 on Friday, April 5, in Burton.Snook fell to 4-10 overall and 3-5 in district play.Snook surrendered 8 runs in the first inning and 7 in the second with the game stopped in the bottom of the third.

Area Little Dribblers compete at Nationals

Snook and Somerville sent teams to compete in the National Little Dribblers Tournament in Nocona over April 3-6.In the Junior Boys division (third and fourthgrade), Snook beat Wortham in the first round, before losing to Cayuga in the second round -- moving to the loser’s bracket.

Macik throws for gold at district meet

Snook’s Alexis Macik earned gold in the girls varsity shot put and in the girls varsity discus at last week’s District 26-2A Track & Field Meet in Snook.Both Snook and Somerville competed at the district meet.In the shot put, Macik threw for a distance of 37 feet 5.5 inches.

Lady Yeguas fall to Mumford 3-1

In a low-scoring, strong pitching game, Mumford was able to muster a 3-1 win over the Lady Yeguas.Emma Williams started the game for Somerville and recorded 18 outs. She went six innings, giving up the three runs (two earned) on seven hits, striking out seven and walking two.

Yeguas win 2 over RTC, get to 4-4 in district

The Somerville Yeguas won a two-game series with Round Top-Carmine last week by scores of 10-4 and 12-0 to improve to 4-4 in district play.The Yeguas, 5-9 overall, won at RTC on Tuesday, April 2, and then defeated the Cubs 12-0 at home on Friday, April 5.
