Lady Hornets open district with 4-0 win over Taylor

The Lady Hornets began district play with a 4-0 road win over Taylor last Tuesday afternoon.Caldwell was first on the board when Avery Smith scored from third base on a Jillian Vykukal sacrifice to the Taylor pitcher in the top of the first inning.Caldwell added two runs in the top of the third.

The annual Happy Skrabanek Relays is Thursday, March 21, at Hornet Stadium.The field events will begin at 2 p.m., following the scratch meeting at 12:30 p.m. and the coaches meeting at 1:30 p.m.

Hornets win 10-0 over Banquete, fall to Gatesville

The Caldwell Hornets defeated Banquete 10-0 last Wednesday and fell to Gatesville 7-1 on Monday in a pair of home games, evening their record at 7-7-1.

Lady Jay softball falls to Burton 4-2

The Lady Jays were on the road last Tuesday, March 12, in Burton, falling to the Lady Panthers 4-2.Snook got on the board first when Marissa Batiste scored from second off an Aubrey Becker single to left field in the top of the first.

During Caldwell’s district opener against Taylor last week, Fletcher pitched seven innings, allowing four hits and no runs, striking out 11 Lady Ducks.Offensively, she was 3-of-4 at the plate.

ATHLETES of the WEEKBluejay BaseballIn the first game of a double-header against Richards last week, Hruska pitched six innings, allowing one hit and four runs and struck out nine in a 9-6 win.He also had two hits -- including a triple -- and two RBIs.

Snook beats Richards twice in district opener

The Snook Bluejays defeated Richards in their district opener 9-6 and 25-6 in a Tuesday, March 12, home doubleheader, improving to 3-5 overall.In game one, Snook took leads of 3-0 in the first inning, 5-0 after the second inning and 7-3 after 4 innings.

Somerville, Snook players earn All-District honors

Somervi l le High School’s Keith Crawford won Most Valuable Player, and Somerville Head Coach Terrance Preston won Coach of the Year in the 2023-24 All District 26-2A Basketball Team selections.

Becker gets her 600th strikeout

Lady Jay ace pitcher Aubrey Becker has hit yet another pitching milestone -- her 600th career strikeout...only 17 days after she earned her 500th.Becker threw 15 Ks on Monday in a 2-1 win over Mumford to reach this latest milestone as a Lady Jay.

Lady Hornet soccer team advances to UIL playoffs

Even though the Lady Hornets fell to Taylor in their final district game last Friday night at home, Caldwell is in the UIL Class 4A Girls Soccer Playoffs for the first time in school history.
