Bernard August Pivonka was born September 10, 1935 in Frenstat, the son of Martin, Sr. and Mary Pivonka.
He passed on to his Heavenly home October 26, 2026.
Bernard was a hard worker all his life. While he held several different job titles and volunteer positions, he was proudest of his time with the Texas Department of Transportation.
Even after retirement he paid close attention whenever he came upon road construction and could tell you exactly what materials were being used on the roads and why.
He was a founding member of the Deanville Volunteer Fire Department. It meant a great deal to him that he and his twin sister, Bernadine, were at the first meeting when the fire department was established and they were among the first to pay dues to begin the process of building the department.
He was a lifelong Catholic and member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
He spent many hours volunteering at both the fire department and the church.
Bernard loved all his family deeply. He always wanted to help them any way he could. He stepped in when his twin sister was widowed at an early age and helped her and her two children, Bernadette and Larry, any way he could.
He was affectionately known as Uncle B to his nieces, nephews, their children and many of their friends as well.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Martin Pivonka, Jr. and wife, Catherine, and Albert Pivonka and wife, LaVerne; sisters, Albina Davidson and husband, Bob, Mary Stanek and husband, Edwin, Lydia Kostelnik and husband, Joe, Josephine Vaughn and husband, James, Bernadine Dworsky Gerland and husbands, Roy Dworsky and CW Gerland, and Hattie Laffere and husband, Jimmie.
He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Visitation will take place Thursday, October 29, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell.
Funeral Mass will be held at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Frenstat at 10:00 a.m. October 30, 2026.
Pallbearers are Travis Johnson, Jacob Johnson, John Laffere and Mark Stanek.
Honorary pallbearers are Alexa, Maddie, Jameson and Jace Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Deanville Volunteer Fire Department or the Holy Rosary Catholic Church Cemetery Fund.
