Antonio Negrete, Sr., 86, of Somerville passed away peacefully at his home, Thursday, December 20, 2023.
A celebration of life will be held Friday, December 29, 2023, at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.
Antonio was born at the homestead in Somerville to parents, Anastacio Negrete and Solidad (Armenta) Negrete.
Antonio enjoyed fishing, hunting, shooting pool, gardening, playing lottery, spending time with his family, socializing with his many friends, but most of all reminiscing about the good ol’ days. Antonio lived life to the fullest everyday, anytime he got the chance to travel, he took it.
When he was young, he worked in the cotton fields. His strong work ethic gave him a leg up when he became a cabinet maker, demolition man and worked for 30+ years at Santa Fe Railroad Company.
Antonio kept busy after retirement by helping his son, Antonio, Jr., with his firewood business.
Antonio was preceded in death by his parents, Anastacio and Solidad (Armenta) Negrete; brothers, Yreneo, Pete and Ray Negrete; sisters, Cecilia Baca; and an infant sister.
Antonio leaves behind to cherish his memory, son, Antonio Negrete, Jr. (Miranda); daughters, Patricia Vela (Joe), Esther Negrete; brothers, Andrew Negrete (Dora), Joe Negrete (Margarita); sisters, Loretta Soliz (Robert), Mary Zepeda (Willie); grandchildren, Jessica Negrete-Patzel (Mitch Jr.), Antonio Negrete, III (Connie), Ashley Negrete, Levi Negrete, Liam Negrete, Melissa Cooper, Stanley Garner (Meagan), Jeffery Blake Discher, Jr. (Ashlee), Tina Turner (Danny), Joe Vela, Jr. (Jazmine), Sarah Yarbrough, John Wayne Yarbrough Jr.; 33 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Antonio Negrete, III, Jeffery Blake Discher, Jr., Joe Vela, Jr., John Wayne Yarbrough Jr., Jordan Smith, and Mitch Patzel.
