Cynthia was swept into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025.
Cynthia was born on May 9, 1951, to Walter and Laura Engelmann. She was one of two siblings.
Cynthia was baptized at Providence Baptist Church and lived her life as a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. A true Proverbs 31-woman, Cynthia’s faith was evident to everyone who knew her. Cynthia grew up and served for many years at Providence Baptist Church.
Cynthia attended Cooks Point School through eighth-grade, graduating in 1965, and later graduated from Caldwell High School in 1969. She went on to attend Mackenzie Baldwin Business School in Bryan and then worked at Texas A&M University in the Department of English for seven years.
In 1974, Cynthia’s life was forever changed when she met the love of her life, Leroy, at a church revival service at New Tabor Brethren Church. They were married on Sept. 11, 1976. Their marriage was a beautiful testament to love, devotion and Godcentered partnership -- an example to all who knew them.
Cynthia served joyfully and steadfastly in church ministry until she suffered a massive stroke. Over the years, Cynthia served as church treasurer, Sunday school teacher, missions coordinator, VBS teacher in many other roles wherever she was needed.
She also served on the Women’s Retreat Team at Highland Lakes, helping organize the annual retreats.
One of the gifts her family cherished most was Cynthia’s musical ability that she was blessed with. She was a talented pianist and organist, and her beautiful singing voice blessed many. She faithfully played the organ in church for years until she was no longer able to do so. Cynthia was a giver, always generous, and she lived out the truth that “you cannot out-give God.”
Even after she suffered a major stroke, through a battle with cancer, and after losing her precious Leroy, Cynthia’s faith never wavered. She remained a shining example to family and friends of what steadfast faith truly looks like.
After her children began school, Cynthia volunteered at Caldwell ISD and later became a librarian at the Intermediate campus.
After retiring, she and Leroy enjoyed many cherished trips to Fredericksburg and other special adventures together.
Cynthia loved being a wife and mother, but her most treasured title was “Mimi.” Her grandchildren lit up her world. When one of them walked into the room, her face would shine and her smile would fill the space. Cynthia loved each of them deeply and ensured that they felt her love and enjoyed spoiling them even as young adults.
In recent years Cynthia called First Baptist Church Bryan her church home and treasured her time there, especially being a part of the Closer Walk Sunday Class where she was loved and encouraged by so many special friends. Cynthia also enjoyed attending Wednesday night Bible Study.
After Cynthia’s precious Leroy passed away, Joani and Lori lovingly ensured that she was cared for and able to remain in the home she cherished so dearly.
In addition, Cynthia’s precious friend Sherrel helped step in to also contribute her time and love to help care for Cynthia and encourage her. Over the past 23 months, Cynthia, Joani and Lori shared countless adventures together, and made many memories that brought joy, laughter and healing to Cynthia’s heart.
Some of their outings included day trips to make hand-blown glass pumpkins and Christmas ornaments, visits to the beautiful Dallas Arboretum where Cynthia delighted in the flowers, treasure-hunting through vintage shops and weekend getaways to Galveston, Gruene and New Braunfels. They even enjoyed a festive Christmas in July. But perhaps the most memorable of all was their special trip to New Orleans.
Each adventure brought radiant smiles and created precious memories that Joani and Lori will carry with them forever.
Cynthia was preceded in death by the love of her life, Leroy Kazmir; her father, Walter Engelmann; her mother, Laura Engelmann Hannis; and her stepfather, Gilbert Hannis.
Cynthia is survived by her daughter, Lori Kazmir; her special bonus daughter by heart, Joani Groce; son, Lukas Kazmir; and daughter-inlaw, Dawn Greening. She is also survived by her grandsons, Colton Kazmir and fiancé, Hunter Kazmir; bonus grandsons, Lamar Groce, Seth Groce and girlfriend, Camryn Craddock; granddaughter, Maddison Smith; her brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Rhonda Engelmann; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear and special friends.
Cynthia will be deeply missed, yet her family holds tightly to God’s promise that they will see her again in Heaven. While we miss her beyond words, we rejoice knowing that our precious Cynthia is now healed and her voice restored and has run into the arms of her Lord and Savior. We know she is singing and praising Him with great joy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to FBC Bryan’s “A Closer Walk” Fund (memo line: In memory of Cynthia Kazmir), 3100 Cambridge Drive, Bryan, Texas 77802. Cynthia loved her Closer Walk class, which is dedicated to being the hands and feet of Jesus and firmly believes that you cannot out-give God. Contributions to this fund will continue Cynthia’s legacy of giving.
