Trusting in God’s grace and mercy, John Joseph Schoppe entered in His presence on April 3, 2024.

A visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024, at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville, Texas.

Funeral services were held at the Lyons Evangelical Church at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024, with Pastor Michael Zwernemann officiating.

Burial followed in Lyons Evangelical Church Cemwith etery in Birch, Texas.

John was born on November 3, 1938, in Lyons, Texas, the son of John Julius and Marie (Schoenberg) Schoppe.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served active duty in Germany for two years.

He worked for Santa Fe Tie Treating Plant in Somerville.

John met Patsy Blinka at a dance at the Deanville Hall, and a year later, they were married on February 12, 1972.

He was baptized and confirmed at Lyons Immanuel Evangelical and Reformed Church and later became a member of Lyons Evangelical Church.

He had a great love for the outdoors, enjoyed vegetable gardening, hunting and fishing, but mostly, just being outdoors.

He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, spending numerous hours tinkering in his workshop and restoring garden tractors, as he was a good mechanic.

He enjoyed reminiscing family and friends about his family history and the history of Lyons as he was a lifelong resident of Lyons.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Carl and Milton Karisch; sisters, Mary Dene Lands and Dorothy Schoeneman.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patsy Schoppe; his brother-in-law, Donnie Blinka and wife, Beverly; a sister-in-law, Lynne Blinka; sister-in-law, Judy and husband, Dave Rogers; and by nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Lyons Evangelical Church, P.O. Box 440, Lyons, Texas 77863.
