Larry See, 67, a lifelong resident of Burleson County, passed away peacefully at his home on April 26, 2024, surrounded by his family after a long courageous battle with lung cancer.

Larry was born on July 9, 1956, to John William See, Sr. and Lillie Quitta See of Snook, Texas. He was the youngest of six siblings.

He married the love of his life, Cindy Shaver, on May 3, 1986, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Frenstat, Texas. They would have celebrated 38 years of marriage this week.

Larry and Cindy were blessed with two loving daughters, Savannah Blum of Caldwell, and Tori Lopez and their beloved son-in-law, Brit Lopez of Magnolia.

Larry loved being a Poppy to his four grandchildren, Brittan Blum and Teague, Baylor, and Renley Lopez.

He loved when his grandchildren would sit on his lap and help him mow his yard with his John Deere zero-turn mower.

Larry went to work for the Texas Prison system at the Ellis Unit, John Sealy Hospital, and Diagnostic Unit in 1981.

He was hired by the late Sheriff A.G. Wilhelm as the third full-time deputy in Burleson County, where he served our citizens for almost ten years before joining the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office.

He worked there for two years before joining the Caldwell Police Department where he faithfully served the citizens of Caldwell for almost seven years.

Larry then returned to the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office where he served his community for almost 17 years.

He retired from the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office on September 16, 2016, and returned to the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office where he served for six more years.

Larry retired on December 31, 2022, after over 41 years of service in law enforcement.

Larry was a councilman for the City of Snook and was the mayor for a short time until moving to Caldwell.

He served as a director on the Burleson County Fair Board for 13 years, holding the office of secretary for several years.

Larry was a member of St. Mary’s Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Caldwell where he was very active in the Knights of Columbus #6366 3rd degree and Assembly 2587 4th degree, serving as treasurer for many years, until just a few days before his passing.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, John William See, Sr. and Lillie Frances Quitta See; father-in-law, Clyde Moore Shaver, Jr. and mother-in-law, Georgie Brinkman Shaver; and niece, Linda Kay Kristof Richardson.

He is survived by his wife; daughters; son-inlaw; and grandchildren; his brothers, John William See, Jr. and his wife, Dorothy of Snook, Edward See and his wife, Catherine of New Ulm, and Melvin See and his wife, Teresa of Houston; sisters, Marijane Kristof and husband, Jay of Bryan, Peggy Williams and husband, Clint of Bryan; sister-in-law, Bonnie Hejl and her husband, Donnie, of Snook, Texas; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends who loved him dearly.

The family would like to thank Dr. Erin Fleener and her remarkable staff, especially Kendra and Jay; Dr. Thomas Weber and his outstanding staff, and Dr. Richard A. Smith for their compassionate care throughout Larry’s courageous fight.

Memorials may be made to the Caldwell Knights of Columbus #6366 Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 418, Caldwell, Texas 77836.
